Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich to miss out on Wolfsburg clash after breaking lockdown rules
Heiko Herrlich will not be present when Augsburg take on Wolfsburg after breaking lockdown rules.
Augsburg coach Heiko Herrlich will not take charge of his team against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday, the club have announced.
The 48-year-old left the team hotel to buy toothpaste and skin cream, thus breaking the German Football League's strict health protocol for returning to action.
"I made a mistake by leaving the hotel. Even though I followed all hygiene measures both when I left the hotel and otherwise, I cannot undo this," Herrlich said in a statement and added:
"In this situation, I did not live up to my status as a role model for my team and the public. I will therefore be consistent and stand by my mistake. Because of this mistake, I will not be in charge of training tomorrow or against Wolfsburg on Saturday."
Saturday's game against Wolfsburg was supposed to be Herrlich's first game in charge after he was appointed Augsburg coach in March.
