Report: Borussia Dortmund close in on another English phenom

"Britannia Dortmund"! Sporting director Michael Zorc's trademark unflinching grin may get upped a few more notches if he's able to lure yet another English youth prospect to the German Bundesliga.

Germany’s “Sportbild” reports that Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc is once again close to snatching a promising English teenage prospect away from the isles. As if the acquisition of superstar Jadon Sancho and top talent Jude Bellingham were not enough, sources at the paper reveal that a deal with Manchester City to bring in 16-year-old attacker Jaime Bynoe-Gittens will be finalized within a week.

Bynoe-Gittens was a much such after commodity, attracting interest from, among others, European giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. “Sportbild” notes that Dortmund were able to beat out their competitors by demonstrating a clear plan for the player’s future.

If this piece of information is true, the administrative competence of the BVB commands a great deal of respect. It’s already know that club has been able to secure the services of top young talents like Erling Haaland, Christian Pulisic, and Giovanni Reyna by convincing the prospects that their club would offer them the best developmental prospects.

Bynoe-Gittens is celebrated in some footballing circles as the next Jadon Sancho. The parallels are uncanny. Both Sancho and Bynoe-Gittens are explosive wingers who honed their skills in Pep Guardiola’s talent factory. Both players were scouted and signed by the same talent agency at roughly the same age.

The “Sportbild” article concludes by jokingly referring to the BVB as “Britannia Dortmund”. It seems as if Zorc has found a direct line to some of the most promising English up-and-comers.
