Bayern München's Javi Martinez is understood to be on the verge of a return to Athletic Club.

According to Marca, the two clubs are in advanced negotiations over a deal that could see Martinez join his former club for a fee below €10 million.

FC Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has previously confirmed that the 32-year-old wants to leave with one year remaining on his contract.

"We know that he would like to leave the club if a suitable offer comes in for him," Rummenigge told AZ last month.

"And we don't want to put any obstacles in his way, because he has always been a good player and a reliable, serious person. We will always try to find a solution that suits the player," he continued.

Javi Martinez has made a total of 238 appearances for Bayern, scoring 13 goals and making nine assists.
