Serge Gnabry nets hat-trick as Bayern humiliate Schalke 04 in Bundesliga opener

Serge Gnabry bagged a hat-trick and Leroy Sané scored on his debut as Bayern München kicked off the new Bundesliga season with a crushing 8-0 win over Schalke 04.
Bayern München thrashed Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga opener at Allianz Arena on Friday evening, sending David Wagner's side home with a humiliating 8-0 defeat.

Serge Gnabry opened the scoring after just four minutes. After bringing down a long ball from Joshua Kimmich, the 25-year-old turned and curled the ball past Ralf Fährmann in the Schalke goal.

The reigning German champions added a second after 19 minutes, when Leon Goretzka slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, before Robert Lewandowski made it 3-0 from the penalty spot with 31 minutes on the clock.

Gnabry netted his second shortly after the break and sealed his hat-trick just shy of the hour mark after being teed up by Leroy Sané on both occasions.

Thomas Müller added a sixth in the 70th minute before Leroy Sané got on the scoresheet one minute later after latching onto a through ball from Joshua Kimmich.

Bayern coach Hansi Flick then brought on youngsters Michael Cuisance, Chris Richards and Jamal Musiala, and it was the latter who made it 8-0, scoring a great solo goal on his senior debut.
