Schalke 04 have completed the signing of Danish international goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow on a season-long loan deal from Eintracht Frankfurt, with Markus Schubert moving in the opposite direction on the same terms.

"We're hoping that this swap proves beneficial for all those involved. Markus Schubert and Frederik Rönnow will both benefit from a change in scenery, and are both looking forward to a new challenge," said Schalke head of sport Jochen Schneider.

Eintracht Frankfurt board member Fredi Bobic commented:

"With Markus Schubert, we have signed a German youth international with a lot of potential, who has proven his ability to play in the Bundesliga in the past.

"From a sporting point of view, there is no reasons for us to let 'Freddy' leave, because he's very popular at the club as a goalkeeper and person. But ahead of next year's European Championship, we wouldn't want to deny him the opportunity to regularly demonstrate his skills in the Bundesliga, and 'Freddy' currently believes he has better chances of doing so at Schalke."
