Werder Bremen have confirmed that Dutch midfielder Davy Klaassen has left the club to join Ajax in his home country.

The 27-year-old will return to Ajax, where he came through the youth ranks to make 180 appearances with 55 goals and 38 assists to his name before joining Everton and then Werder.

"It was clear to us that we would not let Davy go at any price, but only if our expectations were met, especially since he was one of our most important players. In the end, we were able to meet Davy's wish to switch to Ajax, which he sees as his sporting home," said Werder sporting director Frank Baumann.

Ajax have announced that they have paid €11 million to sign Klaassen, with the fee potentially rising to €14 million.

Klaassen scored 16 goals and made 13 assists in 81 games for Werder.
