Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has defended Thomas Meunier from the criticism he has received after his first handful of games for the club.

Signing for Dortmund on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain, the 29-year-old has come in to replace Achraf Hakimi on the right side of defence.

Hakimi, whose two-year loan spell ended at the end of last season, was involved in 19 goals for Dortmund in the 2019/20 season, but Zorc doesn't expect the same kind of offensive contribution from Meunier, who is a more defensive-oriented player.

"It's like comparing apples and oranges," Zorc said of the comparisons between Hakimi and Meunier in an interview with Kicker.

"Thomas does us good as a type with his stability and robustness," he added.

"He's also very clever going forward."

Meunier has made a total of five appearances for Dortmund until now.
