Nagelsmann on Tyler Adams:
"It would be great if he could tolerate the pain."

Leipzig's young head coach told the media he saw no need to debrief with his players following the 0-5 shellacking in England on Wednesday.

He also provided injury updates ahead of Leipzig's weekend date with fellow UCL side Borussia Mönchengladbach.

"Success is a staircase and not a door," Julian Nagelsmann told reporters before boarding a Gladbach-bound flight on Friday. The Leipzig trainer's words sought to shake off the lopsided midweek result against Manchester United; the worst defeat in the 11-year-history of the new Bundesliga club.

"We had to take a step back," Nagelsmann told the assembled press corps, "but now we have the opportunity to go several steps forward again".

Indeed, they can. All Germany's Red Bulls must do is earn a draw against Marco Rose's foals and they will be arithmetically off to their best-ever Bundesliga start with 14 points from six matches.

RB square off against another side that saw midweek action in the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League group stage. BMG enter the encounter with an additional day off rest after drawing 2-2 with Real Madrid on Tuesday. "That's certainly not an advantage," Nagelsmann acknowledged.

The 33-year-old coach confirmed that Norsdi Mukiele would not be available for the Gladbach fixture after suffering a muscle tear. Konrad Laimer and Lukas Klostermann also remain out with long-term injuries.

Nagelsmann did provide an update on midfielder Tyler Adams. The 21-year-old US International has been kept out of the last two starting lineups with an inner ligament strain. MRI results have evidently revealed that the injury is not structural. Adams has thus been cleared to play on Saturday.

"It's a purely pain-related issue," Nagelsmann divulged, "I'd like to have him. We need him. It would be great if he could tolerate the pain."

Nagelsmann also spoke on Amadou Haidara, who has recently recovered from a bout with COVID. While the 22-year-old Malian has tested negative and been released from quarantine, he's not yet resumed training with the squad. The trainer didn't reveal whether Haidara would travel with the team.
