Wolfsburg hold off late Hertha barrage to preserve 1-1 draw

Brno Labbadia' Hertha BSC snapped a four-game losing streak and earned their first home point of the 2020/21 campaign at an empty Olympiastadion on Sunday.

Despite a strong second-half performance, they could do no better than draw visiting VfL Wolfsburg.

An unchanged Hertha Xi squared off against a VfL side missing captain Joshua Guilavogui (injury) and peak performer Maximilian Arnold (birth of child) in the Bundesliga's Sunday 18:00 fixture. A nice piece of persistence helped the hosts take the early lead. Attacker Matheus Cunha fired past Koen Casteels after a stumble in the 6th.

The German Wolves attempted to answer via strong efforts from new starters Josip Brekalo and Yannick Gerhardt. Bucaneering fullback Ridle Baku eventually pulled Germany's green company team level with a scorching effort in the 20th.

A very intense game of tactical cat and mouse ensued between the two managers. It took roughly a half hour after the restart for Labbadia to break down Oliver Glasner's defensive set-up. After the 75th, the chances came fast and furious with striker Jhon Cordoba missing several late chances before the full-time whistle blew.
