Behind tenacious right-hand combo of Mbabu and Baku, undefeated Wolfsburg head to Bayern with confidence

One the Bundesliga's two remaining undefeated teams head to Munich for a highly anticipated Wednesday showdown under the Allianz floodlights. 

Germany's green company team already made a huge statement in their dominant 2-1 Round 11 win over Frankfurt. 

Are they poised to make yet another?

The level-of-play was unquestionably very impressive. Fueled by the right-side partnership of the returning Kevin Mbabu and Ridle Baku in midfield, Wolfsburg earned seven corners against Frankfurt inside the opening four minutes. VfL head coach Oliver Glasner could hardly have been more pleased with the dominance of his right-flank. 

"It was the first time they played in that constellation, and I'm very satisfied with the way the two of them harmonized," Glasner told reporters on Sunday, "We knew there would be spaces behind Filip Kostic. The two of them took turns attacking this space with their speed and strength."

Glasner declared himself "overjoyed" for the returning Mbabu who, after contracting COVID and an incurring a serious injury, "has worked very hard" to once again get fit for the starting XI. Wolfsburg may get some shots at the Bayern left too, where holes often appear in Hansi Flick's high-press.

VfL keeper Koen Casteels has yet to win a match against Bayern in ten tries. He nevertheless indicated that he very much looked forward to the encounter. While conceding that his team entered the match heavy underdogs, he summarized the mood about the club by saying that, "We're in fantastic shape and also have confidence in ourselves."
