After taking off Cunha at half-time, Labbadia didn't hold back from criticizing his own player in a post-match interview.
"The face we showed today didn't work at all. Somebody felt he could do it all on his own," Labbadia told Kicker after the game, probably referring to the Brazilian.
"We could have taken him off last time against Mainz, but chose not to. Today, we decided to do it because he was abysmal in the first half. He's still a young person at 21, but something has to change immediately.
"It's unacceptable. He let himself and his team down with his performance. It's very rare that I do something like this, but I'll say it honestly: I'm totally offended."
Cunha himself released a statement on social media on Sunday, stating:
"Hello, my Hertha fans. I know today wasn't a good day for us. There are people who talk a lot, but I really play for you, for our Hertha and those who really want to help. I will improve and give you back CUNHA!!!"
