Mainz have parted ways with sporting director Rouven Schröder by mutual consent.

The 45-year-old's deal, which was due to expire in 2024, has been terminated with immediate effect.

The decision to leave the club was not easy for me. Mainz 05, the club, the team, the staff and the city have grown close to my heart over the past few years, and that's not something you can easily give up," said Schröder in a statement.

"However, for my work and for my commitment, I have to stand behind what I do 100 per cent. I had the feeling that it is better for the club and for me to move on so that Mainz 05 can reposition itself as a whole."

Mainz sit 17th in the Bundesliga table with six points after four games.
