With David Alaba increasingly likely to leave the Bayern first team roster, the German giants are looking to new youngsters to strengthen up their ranks. One of the first names to have come up this transfer window is highly rated English U-21 international, Omar Richards.

The Reading defender has regularly featured this season in the Championship and his contract expires at the end of the season in June, making him a prospective free transfer. A pre-contract deal can be set up between Richards and an interested club, rumoured to be Bayern Munich, according to Daily Mail.

The 22 year old left back’s move to Bayern will see him fight for a starting spot with the likes of Canadian prodigy Alphonso Davies and the versatile Lucas Hernandez. His place in the starting eleven is not a given and this will be a major factor in dictating the direction in which this transfer saga goes. At only 22, he will be seeking more playing time to become a regular at both the club and international level.

While a move to Bundesliga might prove to be tasty, it will be in the best interests of both Reading FC & the youngster to hold out until next summer.

He has played 21 matches this season for Reading, excelling in the full back role and helping them reach the fifth position in the second tier. The Royals look to make their first appearance in the Premier League next season after a nine year long absence.
