Report: Köln prepare to send Modeste to AS St. Etienne on loan

Two Kölner newspapers report that Germany's Geißböcke near a deal to send veteran striker Anthony Modeste back to his native France.
Long-time 1. FC Köln striker Anthony Modeste is apparently headed to the French club his father once played for. Local newspapers Kölner Anzeige and Kölner Express report that the cathedral city club nears completion of a loan arrangement to send the 32-year-old to AS St. Etienne.

Modeste's second stint with the Domstädter included six goals in ten appearances during the 2018/19 promotion campaign and a further four tallies  in 29 appearances last year. Injuries have limited him to eight appearances--and only one start--this season. He did score 8 goals in an exhibition match.

According to German footballing magazine Kicker, moving Modeste on a short-term-loan arrangement could potentially save the club nearly €1 million in wage costs. Sporting director Horst Heldt, regularly vocal about the need to reduce his squad, still must trim some wages off the roster.
