Friedhelm Funkel is ready to take the reins as FC Köln coach if Markus Gisdol is dismissed, according to Kicker.

Gisdol held on to his job with a surprising 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund last week, but it's considered unlikely that he will stay in charge until the end of the season.

Funkel, 67, last coached Fortuna Düsseldorf between March 2016 and January 2020.

Should Funkel take over as Köln coach, it's unclear who would be his assistant. Per Kicker's report, Peter Herrmann was actually intended for this role, but the 69-year-old is no longer an option after joining Bayer Leverkusen as an assistant for Hannes Wolf.
