Broken toe sidelines Füllkrug for Pokal

The injury jinx continues for SV Werder Bremen striker Niclas Füllkrug. At a Tuesday presser, head-coach Florian Kohfeldt confirmed that his team's leading goal-scorer had broken his toe during Sunday's match and would be unavailable for tomorrow's Pokal fixture.
The third enforced injury break of the season has arrived for Niclas Füllkrug. After missing the final two months of 2020 with a calf injury and then missing another full month of the new calendar year with ankle problems, the man who still leads the Hanseaten in scoring this season despite making only 14 appearances will be lost for another match; possibly two.

Werder trainer Florian Kohfeldt told members of the assembled press corp on Tuesday that Füllkrug broke his toe on Sunday against Stuttgart would not be available for selection in Wednesday's Pokal make-up fixture against Regensburg. Füllkrug missed most of the 2019/20 campaign as well, making only eight appearances.

Kohfeldt pointed out that the latest setback didn't necessarily translate to an expected long-term absence. When asked about the 28-year-old's prospects for this coming weekend's clash with Leipzig, Kohfeldt responded that a deployment was "not likely, but not impossible."
