Richards has nailed down a starting spot at Rhein-Neckar Arena following his move from Bayern München in February, and Hoffenheim are said to be very pleased with the defender's performances.
Per the report, 'Die Krauchgauer' are now set to approach Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic to see if they can work out a deal to tie the 21-year-old U.S. international down to a permanent deal.
Much will depend on the plans of the German champions, who have already confirmed that two centre-backs – David Alaba and Jerome Boateng – will leave the club this summer. In addition, the futures of Niklas Süle and Bouna Sarr are said to be in question.
Richards, who can operate as a centre-back and on the right side of defence, has made nine appearances for Hoffenheim so far.
