Peter Stöger is be a candidate to take over as FC Köln coach at the end of the season, according to Sport Bild.

'The Billy Goats' recently sacked Markus Gisdol and replaced him with coaching veteran Friedhelm Funkel on a short-team deal for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign.

Per Sport Bild, Stöger could be in line to take the reins from Funkel this summer after confirming to FC Köln managing director Alexander Wehrle that he would be ready to return to his former job.

Stöger, who worked as Köln coach from July 2013 until December 2017, is the current head coach of Austria Wien, where he is under contract until this summer.

FC Köln won three crucial points in their battle against relegation as they beat RB Leipzig on Tuesday, but are still in the relegation zone, sitting 17th in the Bundesliga.
