Confirmed: Mainz extend Dominik Kohr's loan deal through next season

FSV Mainz 05 confirmed on Saturday afternoon that they had extended the loan arrangement of Frankfurt's Dominik Kohr by one year.

At least one of the two Eintracht Frankfurt players who played an instrumental role in Bo Svensson's turnaround of FSV Mainz this spring will remain in the Pfalz next season. Twenty-seven-year-old midfielder Dominik Kohr shall suit up for the Rheinhessen in 2021/22. The club confirmed this on Saturday.

"With his tackling and play, Dominik is a stabilizing factor in our game," trainer Svensson noted in a statement, "With his presence as an experienced and aggressive leader on the pitch, he is someone who his teammates can look to and rely upon."

Kohr himself had previously likened his move to the Nullfünfter as "a coming home of sorts."

The move counts as something of a surprise as few expected that either Kohr or SGE teammate Danny da Costa would be retained by the club.

Da Costa, who presumably remains lukewarm about returning to die Adler, might see his loan extended as well.
