Davies back in Germany after injury ends Gold Cup campaign

Canada's FA announced on Friday evening that Bayern's Alphonso Davies had been returned to Munich early after suffering an ankle injury that put an end to his 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Bitter news out of the USA on Friday night as it was confirmed that Alphonso Davies would not be able to represent his native country in the coming CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Canadian FA released a statement that the left-back/winger suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out of the tournament.

The statement did not disclose the severity of the injury, but noted that Davies was already back in Germany. Since the coming North American continental Championship runs through August 1st, it can be assumed that the 20-year-old will need significant rehab time before once again training with the German record champions.

Davies was one of three current Bundesliga professionals currently in the States preparing to compete in the competition. Leon Bailey of Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Jamaica) and Sheraldo Becker of 1. FC Union Berlin (Suriname) remain with their national teams ahead of kickoff on Sunday.
