Niklas Dorsch has revealed why he turned down reported interest from Hertha BSC, Wolfsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and LOSC Lille to join Augsburg from Belgian side KAA Gent.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who won the Under-21 Euros with Germany last month, told Kicker:

"The last thing I considered was my salary. For me, at my age, the sporting development is decisive. The perspective here was convincing from the start.

"I'm happy when I'm playing. Of course, there's no guarantee of that. But here's a coach, who thinks like me, and a team that has experienced players, but also young, hungry players like me, who want to achieve great things," added the former FC Bayern youth prospect.

"At the U21 Euros, I learned what you can achieve as a team, even if you don't have the top players with the highest transfer values.

"The fact that I'm back in Germany after a year is great for me. I've found the perfect club in FCA. We already had very good talks from the start of the knockout stages of the U21 Euros. After the experience in Gent, it was very important to me that I had a great feeling right after the first conversation with the coach. He showed me a clear plan."
