In an interview with Voetbal International, Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has confirmed reports that Hertha BSC are interested in Jurgen Ekkelenkamp.

He also revealed that the 21-year-old midfielder is expected to leave Ajax.

"We want to cooperate over the transfer of Jurgen Ekkelenkamp," said Overmars and continued:

"He still has one year left on his contract. He could extend it, but how would that help Jurgen? We think it's best if he moves to a club where he will get a serious amount of playing time and the chance to develop further.

"I think he prefers a move abroad. Hertha are one of the clubs that see him as an interesting player."

Ekkelenkamp made 15 league appearances for Ajax last season with three goals and two assists to his name.
