For Oliver Kreuzer, the matter was meant to be closed. His leading goal-scorer would not be the subject of transfer talk this year. Philipp Hofmann remained in Karlsruhe. Period. Evidently, SV Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann didn't get the memo.

Upon receiving an offer from a newly re-financed Bremen front-office on Monday, the KSC sporting director immediately phoned the local paper.

"The timing was completely shameless," Kreuzer told the Badische Neueste Nachrichten on Monday, "That's totally unacceptable."

The 55-year-old also spoke to Germany's main sporting tabloid, emphasizing that he would entertain no further offers for his team's key cog.

"There was an inquiry from Frank Baumann, but Philipp will definitely stay," Kreuzer noted when speaking with Sport Bild, "I can't solve other clubs' problems without ending up with a major rebuilding job myself."

At present, it looks as if Bremen are headed to the Erdevisie for the attacking assistance possible to purchase after the Josh Sargent transfer. Top Dutch league scorer Georgios Giakoumakis may be on his way to the 2. Bundesliga at a price tag of (according to Bild) €2 million plus bonuses.

Bremen themselves are actually headed to Karlsruhe for a fourth round 2. Bundesliga fixture this weekend.
