Official: Freiburg acquire Maximilian Eggestein

After ten years in the Hanseatic city-state, Maximilian Eggestein will move south to the Black Forest for the coming season.
SC Freiburg acted quickly to secure their replacement for the departed Baptiste Santamaria over the last couple of days. Germany's Sport Bild reports that the Breisguaer have agreed to sign the 23-year-old former Germany U21 international for a transfer fee of €5 million. Eggestein departs for just his second-ever Bundesliga club, having joined the Werder youth ranks in 2011 as a pre-teen.

"We've naturally been following Maxi for years," SCF personnel boss Klemens Hartenbach said in a statement, "His way of thinking and style of play fits in very well with the SC. He's had to traverse some very difficult phases at Werder. We're quite pleased that everything has worked out at such short notice and that we can tackle the challenges that lie ahead of us together."

It is not yet known whether Eggestein will be available for his new team ahead of Saturday's match against Dortmund. The midfielder is at the Schwarzwald Stadion giving his first interview now, and thus may be eligible to absolve the final two training sessions.
