Report: Schäfer leaves Wolfsburg for RB Leipzig

Kicker and Bild report that Marcel Schäfer is leaving Wolfsburg, apparently to join RB Leipzig this summer.

Marcel Schäfer is leaving his position as VfL Wolfsburg's managing director for sport, according to Kicker and Bild.

Both sources report that he has received a contract offer from RB Leipzig, with Bild going as far as to say that he has already agreed to become the new managing director for sport of Die Roten Bullen in the summer.

Another former Wolfsburg boss, Jörg Schmadtke, is rumored to be joining Schaefer in Leipzig as a consultant.

Interestingly, Wolfsburg and RB Leipzig face each other in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Schäfer, a former Wolfsburg player, has been working for the club since 2018. He started as their sporting director, before being promoted to managing director for sport in February 2023.
