Schalke 04 sporting director Frank Baumann will represent the club in their appeal of Edin Džeko's red card against Hannover 96.

The DFB sports court handed Džeko a two-game ban for what was deemed “violent play” by the veteran Bosnian marksman.

“We are appealing the verdict because we believe a two-match ban is too harsh. In our opinion," explained Frank Baumann.

"Edin did not engage in any act that endangered the health of the opposing player, as the DFB claims in its single-judge ruling,” he added.

Should Schalke's appeal be rejected, Dzeko will have to sit out on their upcoming matches against SV Darmstadt 98 and Karlsruher SC.
