Three years ago, Bayern Munich signed Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur for a reported fee of €95 million.

The German champions were not the only club interested in Kane at the time, with Erik ten Hag revealing that he wanted to bring the striker to Manchester United during the same transfer window.

Speaking to The Athletic, the former Manchester United manager revealed that he told the club’s hierarchy that Kane was his preferred target up front.

“I said to them, ‘I want only one player — and you know who’," ten Hag said.

“I fought for it. I heard that he was very positive, but I never spoke with him about the issue."

Ultimately, the club’s management decided against pursuing the deal.

“They came to the conclusion. I don’t have the insights in the financials," the Dutchman said.

Ten Hag managed Manchester United from the summer of 2022 until October 2024.
