Three-match ban ends Sildillia's season

The German FA's disciplinary arm has ensured a premature end to SC Freiburg defender Kiliann Sildillia's season. The young Frenchman has been hit with a three-match-ban for his reckless foul against Wolfsburg's Kevin Paredes on Saturday afternoon.

SC Freiburg defender Kiliann Sildillia received a straight red in Saturday afternoon's 1-2 loss to Wolfsburg after taking out VfL attacker Kevin Paredes with a desperate high boot in the 64th. On Monday, the DFB's disciplinary arm decided that the reckless challenge was worth a three-match-ban. The 21-year-old will not appear for his club again this season. Sildillia made a total of 38 appearances across all competitions for Freiburg this year.

Freiburg have had defensive personnel problems all season thanks to lingering injuries involving center backs Matthias Ginter and Philipp Lienhart. Young prospect Kenneth Schmidt has also only been able to make five league appearances this year due to persistent abdominal injuries. SCF trainer Christian Streich will at least get fullback Lukas Kübler back from suspension this coming weekend.

Saturday's loss to Wolfsburg ended up not hurting SC Freiburg's prospects for European football next season all that much. Teams competing with the Breisgauer for the second Europa League and UEFA Conference League place - Hoffenheim, Augsburg, and Frankfurt - all lost themselves. Freiburg maintained their hold on the UECL playoff spot with three match days remaining.
