VfB Stuttgart climbed to third in the Bundesliga table with a comfortable 3-0 victory over VfL Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday.

Stuttgart dominated from the start and opened the scoring in the 34th minute. Angelo Stiller swung in a precise cross to Tiago Tomás, who, completely unmarked, headed the ball into the net against his former club.

Wolfsburg offered very little threat, and Stuttgart continued to control the game after the break.

In the 55th minute, Maximilian Mittelstädt doubled the lead, reacting quickly when the ball fell to him in the box.

Stuttgart sealed the victory with 80 minutes on the clock when Bilal El Khannouss found Stiller, who made a clever run and slotted the ball home.

Harmless all game, Wolfsburg were unable to respond and remain 15th, just above the relegation zone, with only five points from seven games, as pressure continues to mount on head coach Paul Simonis.

Stuttgart’s hold on third place will depend on whether Borussia Dortmund can take anything from their game against Bayern Munich on Saturday evening.
