Mainz 05 were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation rivals FC Köln on Sunday, after Florian Kainz converted a penalty in stoppage time.

The penalty, Köln's second of the match, was awarded after goalkeeper Robin Zentner collided with Sargis Adamyan in the box.

Zentner lamented the decision after the match, calling it "wild".

"I had the feeling that the referee really wanted to give the penalty. I cleared the ball with my head, so for me it wasn't a penalty. The referee's explanation was wild because I can't explain how I could have hit my opponent on the head with my fist," said Zentner.

The 29-year-old admitted that Mainz had themselves to blame for allowing Köln back into the game after Leandro Barreiro had opened the scoring in the first half.

“We let ourselves get pushed back too much after the break, you could tell we had something to lose. We didn't do much in the game. Still, it could have turned in our favor.”
