Piet Scobel's sixth goal of the season helped Nürnberg to a home win over relegation-threatened Darmstadt. Miroslav Klose's men broke the deadlock early in the second-half before William Bøving's first goal for the club sealed the three points.
The 21-year-old Scobel already tripled his tally from last season as he finally scored for the first time since Mohamed Ali Zoma's injury. After a well-worked move by the hosts, the striker provided a clinical finish with a low shot.
With Darmstadt opening up more gaps in search of a late equalizer, Bøving puts the result beyond doubt after the rebound of Alexander Brunst's save from Rayan Ghrieb's attempt fell kindly to him. It was a first league start for the Danish midfielder after completing his loan move from Mainz 05.
Darmstadt's best chances of the game did come after that as Yannik Lührs’ strike ruled out for an offside before Ibrahim El Kadiri's effort in the 95th minute. Florian Kohfeldt's men advanced to the Round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal, but they're in the relegation zone in 2. Bundesliga.
Nürnberg, who are in process of replacing Eintracht Frankfurt-bound Joti Chatzialexiou with the new sporting director Dieter Frey, won at home for the first time since October's international break.
