With just one year left on his contract, Alphonso Davies' future at Bayern Munich is in doubt.

The club and the player have been negotiating a new deal for some time, but talks have so far proved fruitless, with Bayern reportedly unwilling to meet Davies' wage demands.

However, as Bayern's sporting director Christoph Franz insisted at a press conference on Tuesday, there is still a chance that the Canada international will stay at the club for the long term.

"Phonzy' played a strong tournament at the Copa America, even if the penalty in the last game was not ideal. The important thing is that he has stayed fit," Freund said.

"The door is certainly not closed. We'll see what the next few months bring. He may be entering the final year of his contract, but the door isn't closed yet.

Davies was signed from the Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019 for a reported fee of €14 million.
