Still in charge in Vincent Kompany's absence, Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks gave an update on his squad ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga clash with Mainz during a press conference on Friday.

Danks revealed that Jamal Musiala and Aleksandar Pavlovic have both returned from injury to train with the team ahead of the game.

“Most players trained yesterday. Jamal Musiala has re-joined the group, which is very positive. But tomorrow's game comes too soon for him. Aleks Pavlovic was also involved. We need to see how his legs react. Manuel Neuer trained again. Things look good there for the game,” Danks said.

Asked about Musiala and Luis Diaz, who is also progressing in his recovery from injury, Danks said:

"I think it's tough to set a date or game for their return. Next week they'll train individually and then be in full team training when everyone's back from the national teams. But there's no deadline."

The Bayern assistant coach also revealed that some players could be rested, with Alphonso Davies among those who may need a break amid a congested schedule.

“With a few players we need to look at workload and whether we rest them. Alphonso Davies, for example, needs a rest for his explosive nature. We'll make the decision today,” he said.

“We’ll try out a few things. Perhaps Phonzy will be fine, just with restricted minutes. There’s a lot of rotation, a lot of movement, and the full-backs are involved in the attack. We’ve got plenty of players available there, which gives us options, as does our strong midfield. We’ll play as normal, in our usual style, finding solutions with different players. Who those players are, we’ll discuss that amongst the coaching staff. We’ll try a few things out and then see how it goes.”
