Martín Demichelis’ RB Leipzig extended their perfect home record in Bundesliga to five games with a 5-2 win over FC Augsburg on Saturday. However, the fans reserved their biggest cheer for Willi Orban when the defender was subbed off late following his 400th club appearance.
“It was a really special moment to get that reception from the fans,” the Hungarian international said after the game. “Playing 400 games is a huge achievement, and I’m very proud to have reached that milestone. We’ve been through some great battles along the way. And the journey continues.”
The center-back played for the Bulls under several coaches before the incumbent Demichelis. “Huge credit to Willi Orbán. It’s an honour to be his coach. He’s a true professional and always ready to give his all.” the Argentine coach said in his post-match interview.
A former center-back himself, Demichelis was pleased on how the team delivered a five-star performance despite conceding inside the first minute. “I was really pleased with how we stuck to our style of play after conceding so early. The team kept their composure and scored three goals in the first half alone. That’s very satisfying for me as a coach.”
Brajan Gruda won the “Man of the Match” for his excellent assists to make the first two goals happen. The attacking midfielder will now join Germany's national team for their last two games in the group stage of the UEFA Nations League.
“Brajan (Gruda) was outstanding today, and I’m delighted for him. But, above all, I’m pleased for the whole team, because we played really well both in and out of possession.” added the 45-year-old coach.
Gruda was asked about his dribbling qualities as his quickfeet led to both of his first-half assists. “I played the way I always do, but a lot of things came off for me today. I think dribbling is just in my blood! I had so much fun out there, and the whole team was really up for it. Hopefully we can keep it going.” Gruda told reports after the game.
He also shared his delight in making Jürgen Klopp's squad after missing out the games in October due to an injury. “It means a huge amount to me and my family to be part of the national team. I’m really happy about it and want to go there and show what I can do.”
