DFB-Pokal: Bayern overcome early Osnabrück scare to reach second round

Despite Robin Meißner giving the hosts a dream start with a spectacular goal, Bayern’s class and experience eventually shone through. Goals from Harry Kane and Tom Bischof turned the game around before second-half strikes from Michael Olise and Kane’s penalty completed a 4-1 victory for Vincent Kompany’s men.
It was Osnabrück who made the perfect start, stunning the holders after just five minutes. Bayern failed to deal with a long ball, which eventually fell to Meißner. The forward brought it down before unleashing a spectacular volley from distance that flew past the helpless Jonas Urbig to make it 1-0.
Their lead lasted just 13 minutes, however, before Bayern hit back. Robin Fabinski’s attempted clearance went up rather than out and fell straight into the path of Kane, who calmly tucked the ball home from inside the area to level proceedings. The goal also extended Kane’s remarkable run of scoring in seven consecutive DFB-Pokal appearances.
Six minutes later, Bayern had completed the comeback. Olise slipped the ball through to Luis Díaz, whose effort was saved by Jonas Krumrey. However, the rebound fell kindly to Bischof, who made no mistake from close range, sliding the ball into the far corner to give Bayern their first lead of the evening.
Bayern continued to control proceedings and almost extended their advantage deep into first-half stoppage time when Olise found space on the edge of the area. His curling effort looked destined for the corner, but Krumrey produced an excellent save to keep Osnabrück within one goal at the break.
The second half was quieter in terms of quality and clear-cut chances, though Bayern continued to manage the game comfortably and offered Osnabrück little hope of mounting a comeback. The hosts failed to register another shot on target in the second half, with their last effort on target having come in the 21st minute.
Bayern finally added the goal that put the result beyond doubt in the 73rd minute, with Olise finding the net. The visitors won possession high up the pitch through substitute Lennart Karl, who then fed the Frenchman inside the area. Olise skipped past a challenge from Fabinski before calmly slotting the ball past Krumrey to make it 3-1.
Kompany’s men added further gloss to the scoreline four minutes from time when Aleksandar Pavlović was brought down by Jannik Müller inside the area, resulting in a penalty. Kane stepped up and sent Krumrey the wrong way to make it 4-1.
The cup holders saw out the remaining minutes, including added time, with little difficulty to secure a comfortable victory and their place in the second round of the DFB-Pokal.
