Eberl gives update on Bayern's search for a new coach

Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has given on update on the club's search for a replacement for Thomas Tuchel.

Since it was announced in February that Thomas Tuchel will be stepping down as Bayern Munich coach at the end of the season, the Bavarians have been looking for a replacement.

After it was announced on Friday that Julian Nagelsmann has opted to extend his contract as Germany coach instead of returning to Bayern, the club will have to focus on other candidates.

And according to board member for sport Max Eberl, Bayern have already come a long way and hope to be able to announce something in the near future.

"We are making very, very good progress and hope to be further along soon," Eberl told Sky Germany, adding:

“I know that time is of the essence. We want to do it quickly, but we still want to do it as carefully and thoroughly as necessary, and that's the job that [sporting director] Christoph [Freund] and I are doing. But as I said, we are now very, very close and hopefully we will be able to announce something soon.”

Asked if the new coach would have to speak German, Eberl was quick to answer:

"No, but he should speak English."

Asked about Zinedine Zidane, who has been linked with the job, Eberl said:

“I don't know if he speaks English.”
