Ermedin Demirovic has insisted that his only focus was on three points as Stuttgart faced Galatasaray.
The Bosnian international was heavily linked with a move to the Turkish champions over the summer before ultimately deciding to stay in Stuttgart.
He then came up against his former suitors at RAMS Park on Tuesday evening, but was unable to prevent a first defeat of the Champions League campaign, with Aleksey Batrakov scoring twice in a 2-0 win for Galatasaray.
Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, the 28-year-old was asked whether he had viewed the occasion as an opportunity to make another impression on the Lions.
"I didn't really see it as an opportunity to present myself here," said the striker.
"I wanted to play a good game for VfB, I wanted to win the match. I would have loved to score a goal and help the team in that way.
"That's why I didn't think about it all, about presenting myself here.
“Of course, there was contact, and I have a lot of respect for the club, but nevertheless, I wanted to win this game.”
Demirovic also admitted that he had never experienced an atmosphere quite like the one inside RAMS Park, with VfB subjected to relentless noise throughout the evening.
"It was a very special game in general. It was my first time playing in Turkey, and the atmosphere was really something I'd never experienced before. That kind of noise, that kind of support.
“Nevertheless, it was a Champions League game that we wanted to win, that our team wanted to win. Unfortunately, it didn't work out in the end, but we'll keep going.”
