Fortuna Düsseldorf's relegation to the 3.Liga next season could have hefty consequences for the club, Sky Germany understands.

According to Patrick Berger's report at the time of writing, only seven players have contracts that are fit for the German third tier.

That list includes: Elias Egouli, Satoshi Tanaka, Kilian Sauck, Jordi Paulina, Hamza Anhari, Anas Slimani, Sima Suso and Tim Oberdorf.

Furthermore, Fortuna will have to make cuts and lay off staff, reducing those numbers from 100 down to around 60 employees.

One slight positive is that club director of sport Sven Mislintat and chairman Alexander Jobst will stay and look to steady the ship.

Meanwhile, as things stand, Düsseldorf's head coach Alexander Ende is expected to be in charge to start the 2026-27 campaign.

The City of Düsseldorf has also done it's bit to support the club in this difficult time by halving their rent on the Merkur-Spiel Arena.
