Hamburger SV have suspended Jean-Luc Dompé from training and match activities with immediate effect due to “serious misconduct.”
The decision comes after the 30-year-old was stopped during a traffic check last Sunday, during which a breath test detected alcohol.
“On Thursday morning (January 29), the French winger was informed of the decision by the sporting leadership after a clarifying meeting. During the discussion, Dompé was emphatically reminded of his responsibilities as a professional, a role model and a representative of the club,” Hamburger SV said in a statement.
The club will decide on any further consequences after completing additional internal consultations.
According to Bild, Dompé had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.14% when stopped by police. He was taken to the police station for a blood test, and his driver’s license was confiscated.
The report also claims that after leaving the police station, Dompé used an e-scooter to get home. Officers witnessed this and filed an additional charge against him.
This is not the first time Dompé has been involved in a vehicle-related incident, according to Bild.
In February 2023, he participated in an illegal street race with HSV teammate William Mikelbrencis. Dompé’s BMW crashed into a bus stop, destroying it. Fortunately, no one was injured. He fled the scene and was later fined €45,000, the German tabloid claims.
