Outstanding goals helped Hamburger SV took all three points at home against bottom-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday night action in Bundesliga.

HSV took the lead after a frantic start at both ends for ten minutes. Gladbach had decent chances via Shuto Machino and Lukas Ullrich, while there was a penalty-kick shout for a challenge on Albert Grønbæk before Patson Daka failed to penalize Joe Scally's mistake.

In contrast, the goal came from a low probability of conversion rate as Miro Muheim fires one from long range. Including his late winners against Hoffenheim and Stuttgart, the 28-year-old scored three goals in only five Bundesliga appearances after scoring once in the past two campaigns.

Daniel Batz and Daniel Heuer Fernandes then made decent saves to deny Martin Adeline and Zento Uno as the end-to-end nature of the game produced an enthralling encounter. Despite their positions in the standings, the former giants followed an attacking approach in front of Günter Netzer, who won the Bundesliga twice with Gladbach before transforming HSV in his role as general manager after retirement.

Although the onrushing Heuer Fernandes was targeted by Florian Neuhaus’ ambitious attempt that followed with Merlin Polzin throwing instructions, the hosts dominated the remaining of the half as the next big chance fell to David Möller Wolfe before a wild free-kick from close range by Grønbæk.

The two players also combined for another chance before Gladbach equalized against all odds before the half-time whistle. Joe Scally's effort didn't seem to be troubling for HSV initially, but it went all the way after a slight deflection by Robin Hack.

In his first start since matchday 4, Ko Itakura was the only player that went into the referee's handbook in the first 45 minutes. The Japanese international, who returned to the club this summer after only a year at Ajax, then saw his second booking with an unnecessary challenge four minutes after the restart.

Alexander Blessin immediately decided to introduce Kevin Diks to shore up his defense, but HSV scored with their first real chance of the half. Daka couldn't reach Grønbæk's pass in the box, but 19-year-old center-back Shafiq Nandja smashed it home with great composure for his first goal in professional football.

HSV still made life difficult for themselves as a miscommunication between Heuer Fernandes and Sebastian Bornauw invited an equalizing goal before the latter redeemed himself with a last-ditch block to thwart Scally. The American defender rued his missed chance as Hamburg found the third goal with another low xG attempt.

Grønbæk added a splendid goal to his third assist of the season. The Danish midfielder's first goal at Volksparkstadion was a thing of beauty as he found the back of the net with an unstoppable hit. The new Germany international Wael Mohya tried to brought the visitors back in the game, but it was too late for them as Itakura's sending off changed the complexion of the duel.

The hosts end a three-game losing run in all competitions, while Gladbach's surprising unbeaten streak similarly ended after three matches. Polzin's men momentarily climbed seven places before the rest of matchday 9 action in Bundesliga.

Hamburg will travel to fierce rivals Werder Bremen in the first Topspiel after the international break, while cellar-dwellers Gladbach entertain second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
