Joshua Kimmich described Bayern Munich's 2-1 victory over Mainz 05 as an "Arbeitssieg", a hard-fought victory, after the final whistle. The midfielder acknowledged that his side had not produced a spectacular performance but was satisfied with the result and defensive stability.
"It was a hard fought, but deserved win today, we didn't allow many chances for the opponents", Kimmich explained. He also highlighted the importance of avoiding an equaliser before half-time after Mainz had briefly thought they had found the net.
The Bayern captain's opening goal carried particular emotional significance due to a personal family connection. “The goal was highly emotional for me due to what happend with my father. I instantly thought about him after scoring”, he revealed.
Kimmich also praised the atmosphere within the Bayern dressing room, highlighting the progress made under the current coaching staff over the past two to three years.
"What has come together with the coaching staff over the last two or three years is special," he explained, adding that there is greater stability within the club and a stronger sense of togetherness. He believes this unity has become particularly important during Vincent Kompany's current absence.
Finally, Kimmich expressed his delight at Harry Kane's continued commitment to Bayern, praising both the striker's character and his influence on the team.
"He is a great guy and one of the reasons for the fantastic atmosphere in our dressing room. He wins the Ballon d'Or and still only thinks about the team. He is very special," Kimmich said.
