Kimmich reflects on "outstanding" win over Arsenal: "We deserve to go through"
Unsurprisingly, Joshua Kimmich was over the moon after his goal sent Bayern Munich past Arsenal and into the Champions League semifinals.
"It's outstanding. The second half was particularly good. We could have scored one or two more goals. If you look at the first game and today, the bottom line is that we deserve to go through," Kimmich said in a post-match interview.
The Germany international felt the game was very tactical in the early stages.
"Neither team wanted to take any risks at the start. Arsenal wanted to control the game, but they were afraid of our counterattacks. We had two very good chances after the break. In the second half we were more determined and played better," he emphasized.
Sharing his thoughts on his winning goal - a header in the 63rd minute - Kimmich said:
“In the end, you're more likely to score when you're in the box. I was lucky that nobody had me on their radar, and then I was standing there," he told DAZN.
Kimmich was named UEFA's Player of the Match.
“He was the goalscorer but also very good on the ball and defensively very strong. He played Martinelli out of the game,” UEFA's technical observer panel said.
