Former Bayern Munich players Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka were not included in Jürgen Klopp's 44-man selection for Germany's upcoming four UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Speaking at a press conference, Klopp explained that he has yet to speak with Sané, who was left out for performance reasons, or Goretzka, who had already announced that he would be unavailable due to injury.

“Leroy hasn’t really found his feet this season yet. I will speak to him, but I haven’t done so yet,” Klopp said, adding:

“I haven’t spoken to Leon Goretzka either, but Leon is injured. I’ve had more than 50 or 60 phone calls. There has to be some substance to them and not just: ‘Hi, here I am!’ If there is something to discuss, we’ll talk.”

Both Sané and Goretzka were part of Germany’s World Cup squad under Julian Nagelsmann.
