Mainz 05 are keen to keep hold of Kacper Potulski beyond the summer transfer window, sporting director Christian Heidel has underlined.

The 18-year-old centre-back has been linked with several clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle United, but Mainz have no intention of selling him.

“The fairytale is not over yet. It is not our intention to let him go – and he will not leave,” Heidel told Bild.

After breaking into the first-team squad last season, Potulski is now expected to take on a more prominent role.

“He has to play now and establish himself as a regular starter with us,” Heidel said.

Potulski is under contract with Die Nullfünfer until 2028.
