Japanese publication Mainichi recently reported that new Mainz signing Kaishu Sano was arrested in Japan on July 14.

According to the report, the 23-year-old is accused of being involved in sexually assaulting a woman in a Tokyo hotel with two other people.

Mainz have now released a short statement on the report.

"Late yesterday evening, Mainz 05 were surprised by reports that new signing Kaishu Sano has been arrested in his homeland," Mainz 05 wrote on X.

"Due to lack of information, we cannot yet assess or comment on these reports.

“We are seeking to clarify the matter as quickly and as comprehensively as possible.”

Mainz have paid a reported 2.5 million to sign the 23-year-old central midfielder from Kashima Antlers.
