At the weekend, German legend Lothar Matthäus made headlines when he claimed that Bayern Munich are weighing up a summer move for Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol.

According to Sport1, the interest is mutual, with Gvardiol understood to be a big fan of the Bavarian club and keen on a move away from Manchester.

The problem is that Manchester City paid a whopping €90 million to sign Gvardiol from RB Leipzig three years ago – and, given that the versatile defender still has two years left on his contract, he wouldn't come cheap.

Sport1 speculates that with strong negotiating tactics, the price could be pushed down to €75 million, but it's doubtful if Bayern would be willing to pay such a fee for Gvardiol – especially as they are also expected to spend significantly to strengthen their attack, with Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon said to be their main target.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown has also been mentioned as an option, as Bayern look to bolster their defensive depth.

Gvardiol is capable of playing both at centre-back and left-back.
