In an interview with Bundesliga, Manuel Neuer indicated that he has been working for over a year to help Jonas Urbig continue his development. Vincent Kompany confirmed ahead of the season start that the 40-year-old goalkeeper will once again be the undisputed number one at the club.

"I believe I have the same responsibility I have had over the last one and a half year,” Neuer said when he was asked by DFL about the development of the young shot-stopper. “It is my goal, our goal, that he continues to develop and takes the next steps at FC Bayern in the long term.”

The World Cup winner believes there are many specific qualities the former Köln goalkeeper could take from him. The 23-year-old played 22 Bundesliga games in his first 18 months at Allianz Arena.

"I believe the mental and psychological aspect is definitely a huge factor, especially in a club like FC Bayern or in the national team. He always stayed calm, even under pressure. He is definitely prepared for the big stage." Neuer gave his verdict on the up-and-coming talent.

In the same interview with Bundesliga, Neuer also talked about the new signings Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari as they set to make their competitive debuts on Saturday against Borussia Dortmund.

"He (Brown) is very flexible. He can switch very well, is good on the ball, and can definitely hurt the opponent. And I just believe that he has good dynamics, a good pace in dribbling, and can also be a goal threat. I think that is exactly the profile we simply need for our team,” Neuer said about the player he knew from the national team.

“And with Ismael (Saibari), you know he is a weapon. Not only in the box, but he can also work (on the buildup). With us, you have to be like that under the coach (Kompany). And that is good for us. He is very flexible, I believe. And he is a real asset to our attack."
