Flick gives injury update on Goretzka
Bayern München star Leon Goretzka is expected to be fit enough to feature for Germany against Armenia on Sunday despite being forced off last night.
Germany coach Hansi Flick gave an injury update on Leon Goretzka after the Bayern München midfielder was substituted off at the break of last night's 9-0 victory over Liechtenstein.
Liechtenstein's Jens Hofer was shown a straight red card in the first half after planting his studs on Goretzka's neck and jaw.
Fortunately, the Bayern midfielder should be fit to feature in Germany's last game of 2021 against Armenia on Sunday.
"I assume that he can go with us to Armenia on Saturday," Flick said after the game.
"He has been examined. He wanted to continue playing, that would have been fine. But we didn't want to take any risks," added the Germany coach, explaining why he took Goretzka off at half-time:
"Leon is a player we need. He is very important."
Antonio Rüdiger, on the other hand, is unavailable due to suspension after the centre-back picked up a yellow card last night.
