Füllkrug's debut goal earns Germany narrow win over Oman in World Cup warm-up game

Germany failed to impress in their last game before the World Cup as they were made to fight hard for a 1-0 win in Muscat.
Niclas Füllkrug scored on his debut as Germany narrowly beat Oman 1-0 a World Cup warm-up friendly at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat tonight.

Füllkrug only started on the bench, while 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko was handed his full international debut up front. The Borussia Dortmund youngster turns 18 years old on Sunday and became the youngest German debutant since Uwe Seeler (17 years and 345 days) in 1954.

The Borussia Dortmund youngster came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, hitting the post towards the end of a first half that saw Lukas Klostermann come off after 30 minutes.

Muokoko was replaced by Füllkrug at half-time, and the Werder Bremen forward almost made an instant impact as he forced Oman goalkeeper Saad Al-Mukhaini into a good save eight minutes in the second half.

Al-Mukhaini was called upon again shortly after, making a smart save with his foot after Thilo Kehrer connected with the resulting corner.

After Oman missed a glorious chance at the other end of the pitch, Füllkrug finally managed to find the opener for Germany in the 80th minute, sweeping in his first Germany goal after a pass from Kai Havertz.

Füllkrug actually had the ball in the net again a few minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside, and the game ended in an unimpressive 1-0 win for Hansi Flick's troops.
