Official: Bayern introduce Sommer

After he had a chance to complete his first squad training session with his new teammates, FC Bayern München officially unveiled Yann Sommer on Thursday afternoon.
Armed with a new contract good through 2025, Swiss national team keeper Yann Sommer is now officially an FC Bayern player. The German giants officially introduced the 34-year-old following Thursday's squad training session. Sommer may now tacitly assumed to be Bayern's new #1; at least until Manuel Neuer returns from injury after the season. Previously reported on fees and bonuses attached to the transfer appear to be correct.

"After Manuel's absence, we had to react," FCB personnel boss Hasan Salihamidzic noted in a statement accompanying the signing, "We have lofty objectives this season and that's why we hired Yann Sommer, whom we consider one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. Yann fits perfectly into our team with regard to ambition and character. I would like to thank Borussia Mönchengladbach for the constructive negotiations."

Sommer himself declared himself to be "proud and excited" to join the league-leaders. The long-time BMG net-minder, switching to a new club for the first time in eight-and-a-half years, lauded the "quality and charisma" of his new team. Gladbach are expected to confirm the signing of Sommer's replacement - Montpellier backstop Jonas Omlin - very shortly.
